Have a Plan!

If you've watched the news lately you've seen all the devistaion that has occured in Missori from tornado damage.  Living in North Texas we all have the potential to see this kind of severe weather and we all have the responsibilty to plan for if something such as this were to occur.  What can you do to prepare?  Here are some ideas.
1.  Sign up for emergency alerts via text.  If a power outage were to occur you could recieve the most current weather and emergency information.  Check out http://www.nixle.com/ or the National Weather Service for more information.
2.  Have a plan in place.  Practice with your family what to do if a tornado warning occurs so everyone knows the safest spot in your home.  Instruct all family members to stay inside during severe weather.  During a tornado is not a time to be filming a YouTube video!  Common sense is a must!
3.  Have emergency supplies in your safe area and easily accessible.  Check batteries on flashlights and weather radios frequently.  Have blankets, food and water, and a first aid kit available.
4.  List emergency phone numbers
I would be glad to help anyone with planning for severe weather.

April News

The countdown to the end of the year is upon us!

Upcoming events:

April 18th Care Van comes to Dodd Elementary.  This is a great opportunity for our 6th graders to get their required immunizations and best of all they're FREE!  You need a current copy of your immunizations and a parent or guardian to attend.  The line is long and the event runs from 5pm to 8pm.  Be early and avoid the crowd!  The Care Van also comes to other locations in Dallas and Collin Counties.  You can view the schedule on their website at http://www.carevan.org/

Updated shot records can be copied and sent to school or faxed to 972-442-3971.  The sooner these are received the sooner they will be updated in our system and you will be all ready to go to  Burnett in the fall!  Remember, if you do not have your immunizations completed, you will not receive your schedule at Burnett.

5th Grade goes to Adventure Camp in May.  Nurse Stephanie will also be attending.  If you have concerns please let me know well AHEAD OF TIME.  The day we leave for camp is very busy.  I will not be accepting any more medication requests on this morning.  All paperwork and medications are due the Monday prior to departure!

April we will be screening our 5th grade students for scoliosis.  A permission form will be sent home prior to this screening.  If you choose to not have your student screened for scoliosis you will need to have them examined by their Physician for this important screening.

Renewed Goals

It's been awhile since I've posted.  Seems most people access my blog to get my contact information.  I hope people are also reading some bits and pieces of news that I feel is valuable for our audience of parents and students.  Here's some updated information about what is going on at HIS!

*5th grade permission slips are due this week for the growth and development video to be shown in PE.  I encourage everyone to attend.  Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

*Adventure camp is coming up.  Please let Nurse Stephanie know of any health concerns you may have that impact your trip to camp.  This includes any medications.  Wylie ISD does not supply any OTC medication, students will need their own labeled supply and completed medication administration form.
